Your plan and usage

Your plan sets how much of Cedent your firm can use — most visibly, how many matters you can have active at once. This page explains how that limit works and where to see your usage.

Your plan includes a set number of active matters. A matter counts as active while it is in Intake, Open, or On Hold; once you Close or Archive it, it no longer counts. So the way to make room within your plan is to close or archive matters whose work is done — nothing is deleted, and they stay searchable. See Matter status and lifecycle.

Cedent’s plans step up through tiers, with higher tiers raising the active-matter limit and unlocking features like billing export.

Settings → Billing & Usage shows how much AI work your firm is doing: total cost over the period, the number of requests, and a breakdown by matter and by the kind of work, plus a log of recent activity. It is there for visibility into where the work is going.

Plan changes are handled with the Cedent team. If you are bumping against your active-matter limit or want to move up a tier, reach out and they will sort it out.

I’ve hit my active-matter limit — what now? Close or archive finished matters to free room, or contact the Cedent team to move to a higher tier. Intake, Open, and On Hold count toward the limit; Closed and Archived do not.

Does closing a matter to free up room lose anything? No. Closing or archiving only changes whether a matter counts as active. Its record stays intact and searchable.
