A tour of the workspace

This is a short orientation to where things are in Cedent. You do not need to set any of it up — these areas fill in as Cedent reads your email and builds your matters. Think of it as three places you will live: Today to see what needs you, Matters to work a case, and the inbox to keep email flowing to the right place.

Today is your starting point each morning. At the top is your Morning Brief — a summary of what changed across all your matters and what needs attention — followed by counters for the things you track. Start here to see where to spend your time, then jump into a matter. If you only open one screen a day, this is the one.

Matters is your case list. Each matter shows its client and opposing party, its status, and how complete its record is, so you can scan your caseload at a glance. Open one to go into its workspace.

Inside a matter you will find:

  • Overview — the matter’s daily brief, key facts, and how complete the synopsis is. The fastest way to catch up on a case.
  • The synopsis — a structured, always-current summary of the case, with each fact traceable to the email or document it came from.
  • The timeline — the case in chronological order: filings, hearings, deadlines, email, and documents, each linking back to its source.
  • Documents — everything filed to the matter, including the read-through text of scanned PDFs and images, so documents are searchable.
  • Drafts — replies, forms, and letters Cedent has prepared for your review. Approve, edit, or reject them here.
  • Chat — ask questions about the case and get answers grounded in the matter’s own email and documents.

Your inbox is where email comes in. Most of it files itself to the right matter automatically. Anything Cedent was unsure about waits in the triage view for you to place — a minute or two a day keeps everything sorted. See The triage inbox.

Other areas — calendar for deadlines, people for contacts and conflicts, billing, and settings — are covered in their own sections of this help center as you need them. You will reach for these less often than Today, Matters, and the inbox.
