Anatomy of a matter
A matter is your workspace for a single case. Everything Cedent reads and prepares for that case lives here, organized into a few areas. This page is a map of those parts and what each is for. For how a matter gets assembled in the first place, see How Cedent builds a matter.
Overview
Section titled “Overview”The Overview is the matter’s front page. It carries the matter’s daily brief, the key facts of the case, and how complete the record is. Open here to catch up on a matter quickly before diving into any one area.
The synopsis
Section titled “The synopsis”The synopsis is a structured, always-current summary of the case, organized into sections suited to the practice area. Each fact carries the email or document it came from and a sense of how trustworthy that source is. See The synopsis.
The timeline
Section titled “The timeline”The timeline is the case in chronological order — filings, hearings, deadlines, email, and documents — with each entry tracing back to its source. See The timeline.
Documents
Section titled “Documents”Documents holds everything filed to the matter — attachments and uploads alike — with the text of scanned PDFs and images read through so it is searchable. See How Cedent reads your documents.
People
Section titled “People”People are everyone involved in the case — your client, the opposing party, opposing counsel, experts. Cedent identifies them as it reads and checks them for conflicts. See The people directory.
Drafts
Section titled “Drafts”Drafts are the replies, forms, and letters Cedent has prepared for this matter, waiting in your review queue. See How drafting works.
Chat lets you ask questions about the case and get answers grounded in the matter’s own email and documents. See Asking questions in the matter chat.
