Reviewing and exporting time

Cedent drafts time entries from your case activity; you decide what is billable and correct. The matter’s Time tab is where you review them, attest to them, and export them to your billing system.

Entries are grouped by where they are in the process:

  • Needs review — drafts Cedent has prepared, waiting on you.
  • Approved — entries you have attested and approved.
  • Exported — entries you have sent to your billing system.

For each draft you can:

  • Edit the description — adjust the billing narrative to read the way you want on an invoice.
  • Adjust the duration — type a different time; it snaps to your firm’s billing increment.
  • Mark it non-billable — keep a record of the work without billing for it.
  • Reject it — remove an entry that should not be billed. It will not come back.
  • Open its source — jump to the email, document, or draft behind the entry to check it.

Add anything Cedent did not capture — an off-platform call, say — with Add time. A manual entry’s duration is kept exactly as you type it.

Billing time is yours to stand behind, so approval requires an attestation: you confirm the entries reflect time you personally spent, as your good-faith estimates. Check the attestation, and you can approve entries — including Attest & approve all to clear the queue at once. Approved entries move to the Approved group.

When you are ready to bill, Export downloads your approved entries as a spreadsheet file (CSV) — date, matter, timekeeper, activity, duration, rate, amount, and narrative — that you import into your practice management system. Exported entries move to the Exported group so you do not bill them twice; re-exporting picks up only newly approved entries.

Export is a Professional plan feature.

Can I bill for time without approving each entry one by one? Yes — after checking the attestation, use Attest & approve all to approve the whole queue, then export.

I rejected an entry by mistake. A rejected entry stays out of your queue. Recreate it with Add time if you need it back.
