Welcome to Cedent

Cedent is an AI matter assistant for solo and small law firms. It reads the email, documents, and case activity you already work with and turns them into organized matters, tracked deadlines, and review-ready drafts. It works alongside your existing practice management system rather than replacing it.

Cedent is built to be source-grounded and approval-gated: it shows you where its answers come from, and it does not send email or take outside action without your review. Those two ideas run through everything in this help center — if you remember nothing else, remember that Cedent points to its sources, and nothing leaves your hands without your say-so.

  • Files your email to the right matter automatically, and asks when it is unsure.
  • Builds each matter — a running summary, a timeline, the people involved, and the documents — from what it reads.
  • Watches deadlines and gives you a daily brief of what changed and what needs attention.
  • Drafts the routine work — replies and court forms — for you to review, edit, and approve.

Each section answers a practical question: how to do something, or how Cedent behaves in a given situation.

  • Getting started — what Cedent does, how it works alongside your practice management system, and how to read what it produces.
  • How Cedent works — how matters get built from your email and documents, what happens automatically versus what waits for you, and where its answers come from.
  • Email & inbox — how incoming email is read, filed to the right matter, and how to correct it.
  • Matters & workspace — the parts of a matter, the synopsis and timeline, and the matter chat.
  • Documents — how Cedent reads PDFs and attachments and how to add your own.
  • Deadlines & reminders — how dates are found, the calendar, and reminders.
  • Drafts & approvals — how Cedent prepares replies and forms for your review.
  • Daily briefs — the morning summary of what changed and what needs attention.
  • People & conflicts — the people directory and how conflict checks work.
  • Trust, sources & privacy — how your data is handled and who can see what.
  • Billing — how Cedent drafts time entries for you to review and export.
  • Account & settings — your profile, connections, team, plan, and notifications.
  • Reference — a glossary of the terms Cedent uses.

More sections are on the way as features ship. Use the search box at the top of any page to jump straight to an answer.

If you are brand new, read Your first week with Cedent for what to expect, then A tour of the workspace to find your way around.

If something here does not answer your question, the in-app help assistant can search these same pages and answer in context.
